What is the first thing you think of when you wake up every day? Are you thinking about all the things you need to get done before work or school? What the day ahead brings?

When you awaken try to be conscious of your initial thoughts and direct them to something positive. It could be a daily mantra you repeat first thing…I am grateful to be alive and well, I am grateful for my family and friends, I am happy to have my dog to wake up to each day, I am grateful for my faith that keeps me strong. It can be anything that puts you in a space of gratitude.

Give it a try and see if you begin to notice a shift in how your thoughts affect the outcome of your day, and how you feel about your life. You may not be able to control certain things in your life, but with practice, you can control your thoughts.
